Definition

The ability to allocate time, energy, and money to protect priorities and prevent predictable collapse under routine volatility.

Poles

Each HES element is a spectrum, not a category: the Low and High poles describe how it presents at its two extremes, while the Reference marks the typical, everyday middle. The poles map variation across the range — neither end is inherently better or worse.

Low Pole

Reactive spending of resources; frequent deadline, energy, or budget failures; little buffering.

High Pole

Clear resource architecture: budgets, time buffers, energy pacing, leak control, and plan–fact calibration.

Reference

Basic planning with systematic underestimation of one resource (commonly energy or time).

Measure

Primary: Buffering — presence and stability of reserves (time/energy/money) against disruptions and peak demand.

Measuring Methods

Calendar + budget + workload review over 4–8 weeks; plan–fact accuracy; frequency of “emergency” failures.

Empirical Anchor

Resource planning / resource management; conservation of resources theory (Hobfoll, 1989); budgeting behavior.

Notes

Not the same as Time Management (D006): D131 integrates multiple resources, not time alone.
