Poles
Each HES element is a spectrum, not a category: the Low and High poles describe how it presents at its two extremes, while the Reference marks the typical, everyday middle. The poles map variation across the range — neither end is inherently better or worse.
Low offense sensitivity: rarely reads input as insulting; lets go quickly; maintains contact.
High sensitivity: reads insult easily; remembers for a long time; withdraws/ices out or counterattacks.
Offense appears in clear cases, but is typically processed and not long-fixed.
Measure
Measuring Methods
• Diary: aftertaste duration post-episode.
• Observation: contact cooling speed after critique.
Empirical Anchor
Notes
• Risks at MIN: under-protecting dignity; tolerating toxicity.
• Risks at MAX: rumination, relationship erosion, chronic conflict.
