Poles
Each HES element is a spectrum, not a category: the Low and High poles describe how it presents at its two extremes, while the Reference marks the typical, everyday middle. The poles map variation across the range — neither end is inherently better or worse.
Baseline negative valence: more heaviness, irritation, anxiety, or low mood even when life is relatively calm.
Baseline positive valence: more ease, calm goodwill, and interest in life in neutral stretches.
Mostly neutral baseline with moderate shifts driven by sleep, load, and ordinary circumstances.
Measure
Measuring Methods
• Explicit tagging of neutral days and computing mean baseline sign.
• Cross-checking self-report with behavioral markers (energy, social pull, activity).
Empirical Anchor
Notes
• Risks at MIN: chronic depletion, reduced motivation, withdrawal.
• Risks at MAX: missing early overload/danger signals; underweighting risks.
