Definition

An episodic wave response triggered by significant attachment loss, organizing yearning, protest/withdrawal oscillations, and gradual updating of the attachment model.

Mechanism

Attachment system detects irretrievable loss; oscillating waves of protest (search/yearning) and withdrawal (conservation) gradually update the internal model.

• Trigger: Significant attachment loss (person/role/home), often reactivated by reminders.
• Appraisal: “Attachment target is absent/irretrievable.”
• Function: Update attachment model while maintaining connection cues (wave pattern).
