Definition

The ability to release resentment and return to cooperation when repair conditions (acknowledgment, change, compensation) are met.

Poles

Each HES element is a spectrum, not a category: the Low and High poles describe how it presents at its two extremes, while the Reference marks the typical, everyday middle. The poles map variation across the range — neither end is inherently better or worse.

Low Pole

Resentment persists; cooperation remains blocked even after repair attempts.

High Pole

Returns to functional cooperation when warranted, without chronic emotional residue.

Forgives small harms; struggles with humiliation or betrayal themes.

Measure

Primary: Recovery Speed — time to return to baseline cooperation after a transgression under specified repair steps.

Measuring Methods
