Poles
Each HES element is a spectrum, not a category: the Low and High poles describe how it presents at its two extremes, while the Reference marks the typical, everyday middle. The poles map variation across the range — neither end is inherently better or worse.
Breaks quickly: drops the task, becomes irritable/aggressive, seeks immediate escape, or externalizes blame.
Stays on course: tolerates delays, searches alternatives, and continues acting without relational damage or decision collapse.
Tolerates short obstacles, but repeated blockage triggers avoidance or escalation.
Measure
• Recovery: speed of return to constructive action after frustration spikes.
